Political Perspectives Competition
The Political & Legal Educators Association of Western Australia (PLEAWA) invites students to participate in our Political
Perspectives Competition.
This competition is open to Year 7-10 students across Western Australia. Participants can enter individually or in groups of up to three members. Students will enter the competition in a division that matches their year group.
The Competition will also run in Semester Two for schools delivering Civics & Citizenship later in the year. Students may submit only one entry per year.
Theme
Your task is to produce a creative piece that sheds light on a current issue relating to one of the
themes below. This can take the form of a poster, political cartoon, video, or other creative medium.

Year 7:
- the Australian Constitution; or

the role of the Australian Parliament

Year 8:
- freedoms in Australia; or
-
the election process in Australia

Year 9:
- political parties and independents; or
-
social media and its impact on Australian politics

Year 10:
- Australia's global responsibilities; or
- threats to Australia's democracy
Criteria
The submissions will be assessed using the following criteria:
- Originality
- Understanding of the Australian political and/or legal system
- Communication of a contemporary issue relevant to Australia
Each entry should present a unique perspective, which is the students' own work. Entries created using generative AI (e.g., Chat GPT) will not be accepted.
Prizes
- The best entry in each year will receive a $100.00 gift voucher.
- Runner-up entry in each division will receive a $50.00 gift voucher.
- Winning entries will be displayed on the PLEAWA website, showcasing your insight and creativity to the world!

Entries can be submitted using the submission button below. They must be submitted by Monday
1st June 2026.
