What are the benefits of listing the PLEAWA textbook for my students?

Students will have access to a publication which deconstructs the WACE Examination for 2017 and links the question to the syllabus.
Several 'good answers' have been provided with commentary which identifies the components of each answer which makes it a 'good
answer'. This will be particularly useful for students who just learn course content without applying it to the syllabus and directly
answering the question. By examining 'good answers' this will enable students to see how they could improve on how they answer questions in
the course.
Who are the contributing authors of the textbook?

Nicol Davis

Nicol Davis studied at the University of Western Australia where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Industrial Relations. After
travelling she returned to complete a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary).
Nicol is an experienced teacher of Politics & Law, having taught the course for 11 years in secondary schools (Years 8-12) in Western
Australia in both metropolitan and rural schools. She is currently the Co-ordinating Teacher for Politics and Law at Peter Moyes Anglican
Community School.
Nicol believes strongly in the importance of providing students with the knowledge and tools to be active and informed decision makers
so that they can make a valuable contribution to the health of Australia’s democracy.

Alison Harris

Ali is a vibrant teacher of Politics and Law, consistently engaging her students with opportunities to interact with politicians and to
pursue their passions in either or both the political and legal scene.
Ali Harris studied at the University of Western Australia gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies, Geography and
Mathematics, and a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary). She is an experienced teacher of Politics & Law, having taught the
course for 16 years in secondary schools (Years 8-12) in Western Australia. She is currently the Co-ordinator of Politics and Law at
Saint Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in Karrinyup.
Ali has always been actively involved in the development and evolution of the Politics and Law course in Western Australia. She has been
heavily involved with the Political and Legal Educators Association of WA (PLEAWA) since 2005 where she has taken on the challenging roles
of President and more recently in 2016 as Vice President of the association. She has also been a member on the PAL Course Advisory
Committee since 2012.
Cheryl O’Connell studied at Murdoch University gaining a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts, History and Political Science, with
studies in the Environmental Science.
She is an experienced teacher of Politics and Law, having taught for 18 years in secondary schools in Western Australia. She is currently
Second in Charge of Learning Area at Melville Senior High School, Senior Teacher in Politics and Law.
Cheryl has been actively involved in the Politics and Law Association for many years in the role of Treasurer and then a General Committee
Member.
Worked with SCSA during the development of the Western Australian Curriculum focusing on the concepts of Civics and Citizenship a precursor
to Politics and Law in ATAR.
Cherie Russell initially studied at the University of Western Australia gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science,
followed by a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. In 2006 she returned to tertiary study whilst on maternity leave to complete her
Masters in Educational Leadership.
She is an experienced teacher of Politics & Law, having taught the course for 19 years in secondary schools (Years 8-12) in Western
Australia. In particular, she enjoys starting Politics and Law as a subject to be offered in High Schools and developing its popularity
amongst students.
She is proud to have achieved this in three different schools, both in regional and metropolitan WA. Cherie has been actively involved in
WACE marking and consultancy for Politics and Law and she is currently the Dean of Students and Head of Humanities at Carmel School in
Dianella.

Our goal is it that the price point is as accessible and affordable to both teachers and students as is possible. As a non-profit we are
only seeking to recover costs and use additional revenue to support the goals of the association and where possible the publication of new
and additional publications.
